2 reporters attacked by security guards while covering a demo at the Kakuzi farm

Two journalists from NTV and Inooro fm were Sunday morning beaten and seriously injured by guards from Kakuzi company limited, after they had gone to cover the stalemate between students from Gititu secondary school and Kakuzi over a piece of land that the school claims has been grabbed by the company. In the commotion school children were also reported to have been injured after being beaten by the guards.

And as that was happening in Murang’a, a family in Kilifi is seeking answers following the mysterious death of Joseph Masha, a newspaper journalist who died on Saturday morning at his Kiwandani home in Kilifi. Speculation on the cause of death is rife and journalists from the coast region have called for thorough investigations into his death.

Kenya Union of Journalists (KUJ) has voiced its concern over the escalating cases of violence against journalists warning that it could get worse now that the country is headed towards the election season.
