Ainley booted out of BKO over Facebook post

Top Kenyan professional, Richard Ainley was booted out of 2015 Barclays Kenya Open on Thursday after organisers fell foul with a post on his Facebook wall.

Ainley who was scheduled for an 8:50am (+3GMT) tee off offended organisers of the European Challenge Tour event when he posted, “I see colonization had not ended. Only Kenya’s elite and mzungus (white people) allowed to park at the Kenya open Karen country Club. Us few PLAYERS that have cars have to make a good long trek yet it does not matter if your late.”

Later in the afternoon, he confirmed his ejection by putting up on the same wall, “Shindwe! (Be defeated!) I’m taking it low out of anger. Because of my Facebook post I’ve been refused to play as my invitation has been withdrawn. To those I may have offended I’m sorry. To all you other Kenyans play well!”

Speaking to Capital Sport on phone, Ainley expressed disappointment with developments of the day.

“As I wrote, I’m sorry it had to end this way. I was ready to put up a good show. For now, I can’t say what the next few days will bring but I wish the rest of our guys all the best,” the former Professional Golf Association (PGA) Tour player said.

German Sebastian Heisele took the early lead after the opening round of play, carding 6-under 66 a stroke ahead of Sweden’s Oscar Stark and Dutch golfer Daan Huizing who tied on 67.
