Alexis Sanchez set to give Arsenal important injury boost

Arsenal are confident that Alexis Sanchez has suffered no serious damage to his knee despite struggling throughout last night’s Premier League clash with Leicester City.

Sanchez never looked comfortable during the 2-1 win and was nearly withdrawn at half-time after taking a knock in a strong challenge from Foxes defender Matthew Upson, but eventually continued through to the 68th minute before being replaced by Olivier Giroud.

Gunners medical staff are confident that Sanchez won’t spend any significant time on the sidelines as a result of that challenge, with The Telegraph reporting that they’re even hopeful he could be fit to feature against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup on Sunday.

TIME FOR WENGER TO GIVE SANCHEZ A PROLONGED REST

Sanchez will undergo tests over the next 24 hours to make sure there’s no underlying problem with an injury that prevented him from featuring in last weekend’s North London derby, but regardless it may be time for Wenger to send his star man on holiday.

Wenger admitted in his post-match press conference last night that he made the mistake of not taking Sanchez off at half-time, while the call to bring Aaron Ramsey on in the second half also backfired and has left the Welshman facing another prolonged spell on the sidelines with a hamstring problem.
