Arati, Aladwa to be state witnesses in alleged coup plot case

Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati is among three people who will be treated as witnesses in a case where a UoN student claimed they are planning a coup.

The others are Nairobi ODM Chairman George Aladwa and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s private secretary Caroli Omondi.

They have been requested to be witnesses against the studentWicklif Ochieng, who alleged they were recruiting militia to overthrow the government in 2017.

The three recorded statements at Nairobi Area police station on Tuesday after they were summoned by the CID. They were accompanied by their lawyer Harun Ndubi.

Ochieng’ stated before senior principal magistrate Joyce Oluoch that they were to work with South Sudan rebel leader Riek Machar.

He was ordered to be escorted to Kenyatta National Hospital for psychiatric tests before pleading to the charges against him.

The charges against Ochieng states that on February 1 at the CID office in Lang’ata, he informed chief inspector Fatuma Ali that Omondi and Aladwa recruited him and others to be trained as militias in Southern Sudan.
