Athletics Kenya has vowed to defend innocent athletes from being banned in participating at next year’s Rio Olympic Games following doping allegations.
The national body confirmed this on Thursday during the launch of its Golden Annual Gala to honor athletes with sterling performance in deferment categories this year.
After an impressive performance by Kenyan athletes in the 15th IAAF, World Championship in Beijing, China earlier this year, top athletes will have something to smile about during this year’s awards ceremony slated for the 10th of next month in Nairobi.
This will be done despite fifteen Kenyan athletes; including Boston marathon winner Rita Jeptoo having been banned by IAAF, for doping.
However, Athletics Kenya Chief Executive Officer, Isacc Mwangi said as they will fully defend athletes who are innocent they will also take stiff action on the culprits confirming that those who have been implicated and convicted for using banned drugs; would not be nominated for the awards.
Athletics Kenya will award both male and female athletes in different categories whose names will be released in ten days time.
The main award will be the male and female athletes of the year 2015; with this years’ theme been ”Top of the world uniting Kenyans’’.
