“I am pleased to announce that I’m standing to be leader of the DA in the Western Cape,” she announced on Twitter.

“I’m standing with Anton Bredell as the nominee for chairperson and Bonginkosi Madikizela as nominee for deputy leader.”

If successful, de Lille would replace Ivan Meyer as the DA’s leader in the province.

De Lille joined the DA after her Independent Democrats (ID) party merged with the DA in 2010.

She became the mayor of Cape Town in June 2011.
