Death of Jonathan’s sister forces postponement of campaign organisation launch

THE official inauguration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2015 Presidential Campaign Organisation scheduled for Monday in Abuja failed to hold as a result of the death of President Goodluck Jonathan’s junior sister, Mrs Nancy Jonathan-Olei.

As early as 11:00a.m., members of the campaign organisation had seated inside the make-shift canopy designed for the purpose at Legacy House, Abuja, which serves as the campaign headquarters, in anticipation of the president’s arrival.

However, after about three hours, the Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, Professor Rufai Alkali, announced that the inauguration had been postponed till today (Tuesday) at 11:00a.m. as a result of the bereavement of the president.

Alkali offered the president’s apology and requested the members to rise for a minute silence in honour of the deceased.

The presidency had with deep sorrow, announced the passing away of Nancy at a hospital in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State on Sunday at the age of 52.
