Download iOS Apps From Pinterest

iPhone and iPad users browsing the social corkboard can now collect “app pins” on Pinterest.

Pinterest lets you collect images, recipes, design inspiration, and more. But a new deal with Apple will also let you find and download apps, right from the Pinterest iOS app.

“Let’s say you’re pinning workout inspiration to your Marathon Training board,” Product Manager Julie Black wrote in a blog post. “If you see a fitness app that helps you reach your goals, you can download it right from Pinterest.”

Just tap the blue “Install” button to download the application directly to your device, without leaving Pinterest. The feature works only for those pinning from the iOS app; don’t expect to find the same option via Android or the Web.

The Apple App Store has also joined Pinterest. Its page is highlighting various services—from fashion to healthy recipe apps, each with a photo, brief explanation, and link to iTunes. Cupertino’s Editors’ Choice picks include Storehouse, Star Walk Kids, Elevate, Leo’s Fortune, and Camera+.

Pinterest employees are also recommending their favorite apps via Staff picks.

Recent Pinterest additions, meanwhile, include “Interests,” a full page of specific topics curated based on your own pinned items. If you’re still feeling overwhelmed, try the new Guided Search discovery engine, designed to serve up pins in digestible chunks for mobile and Web users.

The popular social network in May began rolling out “promoted pins” for brands like ABC Family, Banana Republic, Expedia, Gap, and General Mills. Ads show up in the search and category feeds looking like regular pins; they do not appear as banner or pop-ups.
