EACC Arrests Two KRA Officers Over Sh50,000 Bribe in Tax Evasion Case

Two KRA officers have been arrested for allegedly demanding a Sh50,000 bribe from a customer last Friday, so as not to charge for tax evasion offences.

EACC officers travelled to Naivasha, Nakuru county, on Monday and arrested manager Peter Osebe and revenue officer David Okemwa.

Communications officer Pamela Jepkemei siad the EACC received reports on October 16 that KRA officers visited the customer’s Lakeside Tourist Lodge and accused him of not using an ETR.

In a statement on Monday, Jepkemei said the officers were arrested for “soliciting and receiving” the Sh50,000 treated money.

The two KRA officers were booked at Naivasha police station and released on Sh100,000 cash bail each, she said, adding they will take plea at the Nakuru anti-corruption on October 28.

Jepkemei said the EACC also arrested Kabete deputy traffic base commander and two traffic police officers for taking bribes from motorists along Waiyaki Way, Nairobi last Thursday.

“Surveillance had been conducted the previous day; the officers were caught on camera receiving bribes from motorists so as not to charge them with traffic offences,” she said.

She said the officers plea date at the Thika anti-corruption court had been set for October 16 but was deferred to October 23.
