EACC Directs Public Officers To Close Foreign Accounts

The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission has now given public officers operating bank accounts outside the country until 31st March to close them.

EACC has further warned that it will take stern action against any public officer who will be found operating such foreign bank accounts without the commission’s approval.

In an advertisement placed on local dailies, the commission’s secretary Halakhe Waqo said any public officer who wishes to continue operating such accounts must get approval from the commission.

This comes following revelations that Kenyan nationals had 1,093 accounts opened with HSBC bank in Switzerland between 1975 and 2006 with deposits amounting to 51.2 billion shillings.
