Eight MPs taken to court at 5:45am under heavy GSU escort


MPs Moses Kuria, Ferdinand Waititu,Timothy Bosire, Junet Mohammed and Senator Joshnson Muthama in Court on Tuesday.

The eight politicians facing incitement charges have been taken to Milimani law courts to await charges.

The Cord and Jubilee MPs arrived in court at 5.45am under heavy GSU escort and locked up in the cells awaiting opening of courts.

Police sources say the early morning ride to court was to avoid possible protests.

The politicians have been in police cells since Tuesday, they include Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama and woman representatives Florence Mutua (Busia) and Aisha Jumwa (Kilifi).

The others are MPs Moses Kuria (Gatundu South), Ferdinand Waititu (Kabete), Kimani Ngunjiri (Bahati), Timothy Bosire (Kitutu Masaba) and Junet Mohamed (Suna East).

On Thursday, Cord leader Raila Odinga warned of “consequences” if politicians arrested over incitement remarks are not released in 24 hours.

He said it is “gross abuse” of human rights to detain politicians without giving them food .
