MENLO PARK (CBS SF) — Facebook wants to reduce the amount of “hoax” and “deliberately misleading” news stories from its users’ news feeds.
The social networking site introduced a new option Tuesday for users to flag stories they see in their news feeds as “false.”
Facebook won’t remove the posts, but says their algorithm, which determines the reach of posts will take the reports into account.
While satirical posts from sites such as The Onion could be considered fake by some users, Facebook says research shows users didn’t tend to report them if they were clearly labeled as satire.
