GM announces first recall in new year

CHICAGO, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) — GM announced Thursday it has recalled 92,221 additional SUVs and trucks for potentially deadly flaws,local media reported Friday.

Thursday’s recall announcement was for 2011-12 Chevrolet Silverado HD, Silverado LD, Suburban, Tahoe, Avalanche GMC Sierra LD, Sierra HD, Yukon, Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade, along with ESV and EXT versions in the United States,the Detroit News reported, adding that nearly 9,000 were recalled in other countries.

GM also announced other small recalls on Thursday and a recall on Wednesday covering 3,361 2015 Cadillac SRX vehicles.

Defects of ignition switch are at the heart of the recalls, and others are due to seat problems.

In 2014, GM recalled 26.95 million vehicles in North America, and 30.43 million vehicles worldwide, according to the report of the Detroit News.
