Harambee Stars triumph over Mauritius

Kenya national soccer team Harambee Stars bounced back from their defeat to Zambia at home by beating Mauritius 5-2 in their 2018 world cup qualifier first leg match played this evening in Mauritius.

The stars goals were netted by Johanna Omollo, Ayub Timbe, Haroun Shakava and Michael Olunga.

Mauritius’ consolations were netted by Andy Sophie and Jonathan Bru.

Harambee Stars, who left the country on Sunday, found the back of the net in the 20th minute through Johanna Omollo.

Five minutes later, Ayub Timbe netted a second sending the match into the break Stars leading 2-0.

The wave of attacks by Harambee Stars continued in the second half and just minutes after the restart, Haroun Shakava made it 3-0.

Mauritius pulled two goals back through Andy Sophie’s spot kick and Jonathan Bru’s goal but the Stars had the last laugh when Johanna Omollo and Michael Olunga netted the 4th and 5th goals for the Kenyan side.

The second leg of the qualifier will be played at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi on Sunday.

In other qualifiers, Tanzania beat Malawi 2-0, Seychelles lost 1-0 to Burundi while Comoros and Lesotho played to a goalless draw.
