Heavy security as 3,119 delegates elect new NLC leader

Three thousand one hundred and nineteen delegates have converged on the Eagle Square. Abuja, to elect a new leader for the Nigeria Labour Congress amid very heavy security presence.

The delegates are from 43 affiliate unions of the NLC.

As of 9.15pm on Thursday, the 10th of the affiliate unions were casting their votes after three hours.

Our correspondent reports that the voting was peaceful, adding that the tight security at the Eagle Square venue of the conference was to forestall  a recurrence of the last delegate conference of the union, which was disrupted over allegation of poll rigging.
