Cows are sacred to Hindus, and ancient Hindu scriptures extol the therapeutic virtues of cow urine. An organization in India called the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has thus created a drink that contains 5% distilled cow urine.
The drink is called Goloka Pay. Its origins can be traced to concerns about the potentially harmful effects of commercially available cola.
In case you’re wondering, this drink does not smell or taste like pee. Goloka Pay carries in it the goodness of herbs such as basil and water hyssop and is available in two flavors — lemon and orange.
Interestingly, according to the RSS, this cola is just one of the many products including benefits of bovine origin. Trials are on to perfect a battery that runs on cow dung and urine. If technically and economically feasible, this could lead to something really revolutionary.
India is home to the world’s largest population of cows. And biofuel obtained from cows is a source of renewable energy.
Coming back to cow tinkle cola, it has always been sold in traditional medicine stores across the country. Its health-giving and therapeutic properties include use as a disinfectant and for diabetes management.
Traditional treatments from the world over use ingredients that may make us wrinkle our noses. But the fact that they have survived for so long and the anecdotal evidence over the ages makes a case for scientific study of such claims. Wouldn’t it be nice to know that when a cow makes its bladder gladder, there’s something in it for us?
