Joyce Akinyi, Three Others Arrested With Suspected Narcotics

Controversial businesswoman Joyce Akinyi spent Wednesday night at Muthaiga police station after she was arrested with suspected narcotics.

Akinyi was arrested alongside three others at her Lang’ata house at 9pm by officers from the Kenya Police Anti-Narcotics Unit

Unit head Hamisi Masa said samples of the white powdery substance recovered were taken to the government chemist for testing.

Masa said the suspects will be arraigned in court on Thursday morning once the results of the tests are received.

Akinyi, former Budalang’i MP Raphael Wanjala and three other men were arrested on November 13, 2013 on suspicion of trafficking drugs.

She has also been involved in legal battles with ex-husband Anthony Chinedu who was deported to Nigeria on suspicion of drug trafficking and being in the country illegally.

Akinyi and Chinedu were further involved in court battles over ownership of several prime properties in Nairobi.
