Kabogo summoned to court for calling Raila mentally backward

Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has been summoned to court to answer to charges of ethnic contempt.

Milimani chief magistrate Daniel Ogembo asked himto appear in court onAugust 5 for his utterances on November 25, 2015.

Basi nyinyi watu wa magazeti mwambie Raila aache upuzi, aache nini? Sisi hatutaki upuzi ,” Kabogo said in KIswahili.

This loosely translates to: ” The media should ask Raila to put a stop to his stupid actions. we don’t like stupid people .”

Kabogo spoke at Thika Stadium during musician John de Mathew’s memorial.

“We should not waste time with boys or what do you say? I have often told you that the thing is not good because it is not something that you can detach, it retards a person’sbackward mentality. Are you with me,” he also said.

In the charge sheet seen by the Star Kabogo said he was ready for court action as he has the money.

Ogembo summoned Kabogo in a ruling on Friday following an application by DPP Keriako Tobiko.

ODM officials said last year that the attack on Cord leader Raila Odinga was proof Kabogo ” has little substance between his ears “.

They said the Governor “stooped too low” by attacking Raila’s privacy, and added the statement was offensive to communities that “don’t practice some cultures”.

ODM said in a statement that Kabogo demeaned the Judiciary by claiming he can do “anything under the sun and spend his money to buy off justice”.

The unapologetic Kabogo was questioned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations over controversial political utterances.

Before visiting the DCI, Kabogo repeated the comments he was summoned for, saying Kenyans have a right to make citizen arrests.

He was captured on video footage that went viral, putting Raila and Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama on notice for insulting President Uhuru Kenyatta.
