NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 28 – Anxiety has engulfed the 889,000 candidates who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations in November this year with only few hours to go before their results are released on Monday morning.
According to the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) Chief Executive Officer Joseph Kivilu students sat the exam in 24,000 centres across the country.
The candidates also included inmates in various parts of the country.
The results will be announced by Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi at the KNEC Headquarters in Nairobi.
Kivilu said parents can send the candidate’s index number to 22252 immediately after results are released.
He further explained that candidates who will have their results withheld will be notified in a letter through their head teachers explaining why they have been retained.
“Upon receipt of the examinations results, thoroughly scrutinise the results for correctness and ensure accuracy of the names, index number and gender, school name and code,” he advised.
“Any discrepancy noted on the examination results should be communicated to KNEC as query within one month from the date of release of the examination results, including appeals for remarking.”
This year’s results will be unique after the government abolished the longstanding tradition of ranking schools and students in national exams.
Kaimenyi when making the announcement said the government will release a new formula of selecting students who will be joining Form One.
Though the decision was highly contested, Kenya National Union of Teachers supported the idea saying it would give public schools a great opportunity to equalize public and private schools.
