Kenyan DJ Expect collaborates with Alicia Keys and wows Swizz Beats

With no major acclaim to his name DJ Expect may not necessarily ring a bell when it comes to Kenya’s highest paid deejays. However, the young, determined artist entered his name to compete among the world’s best deejays to create the official remix for Alicia Keys’ “In Common” single off her sixth studio album. The album to be released in September, is said to be “the best music I’ve ever done in my life” according to her interview with Billboard Magazine.

Grammy winner Alicia has been known to widely appreciate music including WizKid’s “Ojuelegba” dancing to the tune in an Instagram video. On her new album the talented mother of one swore to work closely with African artists. The remix project could be the first of many partnerships the artist will seek with African talent. The original song “In Common” is fast-paced with futuristic outlook thanks to the synthesizer in the background.

Dj Expect beat out Dj Black Coffee and even Dj Kenny Dope being selected as the official remix to the tune. Bringing a bit of Africa’s heavy beats to the remix, Expect elevated the song while staying true to his roots. Dedicating the major win to Kenyans and the support he received, is mentioned the journey has “just beginning.”

It is expected that the remix will gain the young deejay lots of opportunities worldwide. Back home, fellow spin master of the likes of DJ Krowbar congratulated Expect. The remix is available for purchase on iTunes and was uploaded on YouTube on Alicia’s Vevo account.

The chart-topping artist has been vocal on social media about the collaboration with Kenyan native DJ Expect encouraging sales of the new remix. The album’s release is still heavily anticipated as many continue to enjoy Alicia’s new musical direction.
