Kidero Housing Plan for Nairobi

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero yesterday said his administration will regularise informal subdivision of land belonging to land buying companies.

He said this hasten issuance of title deeds. Speaking at Crowne Plaza during the launch of the National Housing Survey Report, Kidero said Nairobi’s population stands at an estimated 4.5 million people. “The city’s population is projected to grow to 14 million by 2050 and 27 million by 2100.

Only 35,000 new homes are built against a demand of 120,000 a year,” he said. The governor said the result of this mismatch has increased prices for houses and continued emergence of slums and informal settlements. He said as a result, 60 per cent of the city’s population lives in informal settlements.
