Hiplife artiste, Kwaw Kese will spend his night in prison today as a Kumasi High Court has sentenced him to a day’s imprisonment.
The court further ordered him to pay a fine of GHc1,200 or in default serve a three year sentence with hard labour. Kwaw Kese, born Emmanuel Botchway was standing trial for allegedly smoking in public, a substance suspected to be Indian hemp.
He was arrested by the Police in Kumasi on November 22, 2014. While on remand, Kwaw Kese shuttled between jail and the hospital.
He was then granted bail after the incident even though the offence was a non-bailable one. He has since pleaded not guilty in the matter even though the prosecution said in one of the court appearances that medical tests on the musician have revealed he had smoked the substance.
Kwaw Kese subsequently initiated a campaign aimed at warning the youth against using dangerous drugs.
