Liverpool did brilliantly to beat their bogey team Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the fifth round of the FA Cup at Selhurst Park.
Fraizer Campbell gave the Eagles the lead after 16 minutes before goals from Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana turned the tie around in Liverpool’s favour.
Liverpool lost 3-1 to Palace in the league in November and it was always going to be a difficult game for Brendan Rodgers’ men.
Alan Pardew’s teams always make life difficult for the opposition and they defended stoutly against Liverpool who enjoyed long spells of possession and they pressured the Reds defence with numerous corner-kicks and high balls into the box.
The Reds had difficult enough opposition to play against who were aided by referee Robert Madley who seemed to favour the home side.
When Liverpool players appeared to be fouled Madley just waved play on and yet when Palace players tumbled he would blow his whistle.
Dwight Gayle was just embarrassing with his diving, one that resulted in Jordan Henderson receiving a yellow card although no contact was made and another before half-time saw the Palace player writhe around the ground feigning injury.
That angered Daniel Sturridge who also made no contact with the player resulting in another free-kick for the home side.
How Sturridge wasn’t awarded a penalty when tripped by Pape Souare in the Palace penalty area only Madley knows, it was a stonewaller and luckily it didn’t cost Liverpool in the end.
Liverpool deserved to win in the end and justice was done against a difficult team and another poor referee.
