Roberto Martinez has rubbished reports suggesting Manchester United want to sign Everton full-back Seamus Coleman.

The Republic of Ireland international has blossomed into one of the Premier League’s best right-backs over the past season-and-a-half.

Coleman has scored two goals and has made two assists in 16 Premier League appearances for the Toffees this term.

But Everton manager Martinez insisted United had not been in contact with Everton over a potential deal for the Irishman.

“For me that’s nothing. There is nothing for me to comment really, I haven’t seen that, I have no recollection of that,” Martinez is quoted as saying.

“As you can imagine what we want at the football club is to build something special and to make us stronger so the last thing we want to do is lose important players so no there has been no contact.”

Coleman has scored 17 goals in 159 appearances for Everton after the Toffees snapped up the defender in an £60,000 deal from Irish side Sligo Rovers.
