My meeting with Amaechi not to dump PDP —Lamido

THE Jigawa State governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has debunked the speculation that his meeting with the Rivers State governor, Chief Rotimi Ameachi, is a plan to dump Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor debunked the claim on Tuesday at Kaugama, headquarters of Kaugama Local Government Area of the state during the party’s gubernatorial campaign.

Lamido, who confirmed his behind door meeting with the opposition APC presidential campaign council director general, said “I called him and we met for the national interest which is above political interest.”

According to him “people speculated that I’m planning to dump PDP, others said I have joined APC, this and that. All are not true. I will never dump PDP.”

Lamido explained further that he told Ameachi that Northerners were leaving the South in large numbers while the Southerners were also leaving the North because of the fear over the general election.

“I told him that this is threatening the conduct of the election, democracy and national peace and unity,” Lamido explained.

Governor Lamido maintained that “when Ameachi, a southern Christian is campaigning for Buhari, a Muslim from the North, what is bad if a northern Muslim too campaigns for Jonathan, a Christian from the South.”
