Nakuru County To rehabilitate Lake Naivasha

Speaking at a press conference at Simba Lodge, the Nakuru county Governor Kinuthia Mbugua said a draft policy to manage the lake has been launched to stakeholders.

Mr. Mbugua said the lake has diversified the economy of the country and managing it will be an added advantage.

The governor further noted that pollution and encroachment of the riparian land around the lake are major challenges adding that the policy has ten thematic areas to guide the management of the lake

Nakuru county assembly majority leader Samuel Waithuki warned that any person who will be found to have encroached on the riparian land will face full wrath of the law.

Waithuki said huge amounts of money will be used for survey adding that land grabbers in the area will be dealt with once mapping is done.

Imarisha Naivasha board CEO Mbogo Kamau said the management plan will now go on as planned as leaders from all sectors had agreed on it.

He said that the process was first done 20 years ago but lack of political good will slowed the process to now when the plan has been agreed upon.

“We have various institutions that will be spearheading some key areas and will also be required to mobilize funds in their own mechanisms”, said Kamau.
