Police in Mombasa arrest dreaded gang

Police in Mombasa have rounded up a gang of 17 machete armed thugs believed to be members of the dreaded Wakali Kwanza gang which operates in  Kisauni.

The youths were cornered at General Post Office (GPO) and Majengo areas yesterday at dawn. Deputy county commissioner Mahamoud Salim said the ganghave been operating between  Kisauni and Likoni.

He said they have received reports of increased crime in Mombasa by a group of young men armed with machetes.
“There has been complains by residents of how the young men have been attacking residents and that is why we swung into action,” said Salim.

He said the gang was notorious for ambushing their targets between 4 and 6pm. Makupa deputy OCPD Patrick Njoroge warned other members of the illegal gang to abandon their activities.

“We urge parents to monitor activities their children engage in.  Often, when  we carry out police swoops, parents come complaining that we are targeting their young ones,” he said.
