Raila’s Baringo Tour Over Insecurity Set for Tomorrow

Cord leader Raila Odinga is set to tour Baringo county on Friday following attacks that have left more than 100 dead.

He will condole with victims and their families and address public baraza in Mochongoi Kabel, Kiserian and Magirat, said ODM Communications director Philip Etale.

Raila tour of the county in April was postponed due to other official engagement, Etale said.

“The poor state of security in the area continues to cause tension among the locals leading to the closure of schools and markets for fear of banditry attacks, slowing down the local economy,” he had earlier noted.

“This is despite the assurance by the government that insecurity has been curbed and life back to normalcy.”

Scores were killed and more than 600 livestock stolen in two days of violence along the borders of Pokot East, Turkana and Samburu.

Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery said any politician found to have incited Turkana and Pokot communities to engage in conflict will be arrested.

He said he ordered an operation in the area to disarm the warring communities.
