Six killed, six injured in grisly Murang’a road accident

Six people died and six were injured after a truck they were in lost momentum while going uphill and crashed into a culvert in Murang’a county on Monday.

The passengers jumped out when the driver started reversing but were run over by the truck in the accident along Mwangathia-Kiriaini-Kagicha road.

Those who died in the 3pm accident included four women and the truck’s conductor. They were identified as Kamau Thuo, Naomi Wanjiku, Mary Njeri, Mercy Mwihaki and Gladys Wacera.

The identity of the sixth victim who died later could not be established immediately. Most of the victims of the accident were traders at Kagicha market in Othaya.

Those injured in the accident were taken to Kiriaini mission hospital and the dead to the facility’s mortuary. The wreckage was towed to Kiriaini police station.

Police said they did not know where the whereabouts of the truck driver.
