Sofapaka players have been stranded in Kisumu after their match with Gor Mahia on Wednesday.
The match ended 2-0 in favor of Gor Mahia who climbed to the top of the league table for the first time this season.
A Sofapaka player who spoke to Star on condition of anonymity said club officials, led by Team manager DialloKouass, started hurling insults at them after the match, accusing them of giving up on matches easily.
“When we left the pitch we went to take tea only for the TM to show up insulting us for losing yesterday’s match, they don’t even care how we traveled to Kisumu, our bus almost got burnt on our way here, ” he said.
“Today, AP officers woke us with guns on our heads and they were accompanied by the TM who was still insulting us, now we don’t have any means to head back to Nairobi yet some of us are parents who have responsibilities,” he added.
The said player went on to accuse club head coach David Ouma who he termed as a hypocrite of pretending to be on their side but never bothered about their situation. He says the coach is always urging them to do their best on the pitch yet he never asks the club to pay them.
Sofapaka has been a shadow of themselves this season, languishing in the relegation zone after winning only two matches. The player went to say the last time majority of them saw club President Elly Kalekwa was last year and he promised to pay them all the allowances, a promise he never kept.
Kalekwa is reported to be in Uganda where is doing some business as players languish in the country with no payment. The last time the players received an allowance or any salary was February and since then no one has ever bothered to address their issues.
The players are currently at Moi Stadium in Kisumu.
