“The Interview” was streamed or downloaded more than two million times since it became available on Wednesday, Sony Pictures said Sunday, boasting high demand for the controversial comedy released simultaneously online and in theaters.

The Sony Corp. 6758, -0.71% SNE, -0.23%  studio said Sunday that “The Interview” was rented or bought online more than two million times between Wednesday and Saturday, generating more than $15 million in gross revenue. After people claiming to be the hackers who previously attacked the studio threatened violence at theaters showing the movie, major chains declined to play it and Sony decided to release the Seth Rogen comedy simultaneously in theaters and online.

Sony said “The Interview” is already its most successful movie ever in terms of digital sales and rentals.
