MINGORA: The Swat Qaumi Jirga Tuesday organised a function to celebrate the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to Malala Yousafzai.
The event was held at a local school, where scores of students and people from all walks of life were present to heap praise on the youngest ever Nobel laureate. Sweets were also distributed among the guests.Those present on the occasion paid glowing tributes to Malala Yousafzai who endangered her life to advocate the girls’ right to education.
Swat Qaumi Jirga spokesperson Ahmad Shah said it was a historic moment for Pakistan that its daughter won the prestigious award. Malala’s cousin Mehmoodul Hassan said his family was jubilant and dedicated the award to the people of Pakistan in general and the dwellers of Swat in particular. He said Malala would work for the promotion of education in his native district. “All the relatives and friends will help Malala will help her in realising the dream,” he added.
A teacher of Malala, requesting not to named, said they were proud of her achievement. “She is a brave girl and God always helps the brave,’ she added, and hoped the Noble Laureate would return to the valley to serve her people.
