Police have arrested a teacher at Cheptais in Mt Elgon, Bungoma County for allegedly defiling a standard eight pupil.
The 34-year–old teacher of Bukonoi Primary School reportedly defiled the 14-year-old girl at his home on Saturday.
Confirming the incident, Cheptais police boss Mr Ezekiel Kiche said they received information from a member of the public and moved swiftly to the house of the teacher where they found him in the act.
It is reported that the suspect, James Kibet, had sent the pupil to his house to bring the money as the school was holding a fundraiser.
It is at this point that he followed her into the house, locked her up in the house and proceeded to commit the offense.
NEW AT THE SCHOOL
Kiche said medical reports have confirmed that the teacher had defiled the girl, adding that the suspect will be arraigned in court on Tuesday.
Bukonoi Primary School head teacher, Mr Fredrick Kipcho, said that the teacher is new in the school, saying that he is not privy to his past behaviour.
The victim’s mother, a widow, appealed to the government to take serious action against the suspect, adding that she hopes that her daughter will recover fast enough to resume her studies.
