Kenyan national women’s volleyball team came from a set down to beat a stubborn Peru side by 3-1 and clinch Gold in the finals of the FIVB World Grand Prix, Group three championship in Canberra, Australia.
This was a second meeting for the two teams in the same group and a sweet revenge for the Malkia strikers who lost the first match by three straight sets when they met in Mexico two weeks ago.
Peru started the match on a high note winning the first set 25-21.
Kenya won the second set 25-17 before bagging the third 25-22. The reigning African queens went on to win the fourth set 25-23 to seal the victory.
Mercy Moim was Kenya’s top scorer with 22 points. The win will see Kenya promoted to a higher level 2 of the World competition.
