Known for her beautiful voice, catchy lyrics and funky Afro-traditional beats, Yvonne Chaka Chaka is arguably one of Africa’s greatest performers and songstress. Her songs often transcend borders, age, race and even languages.
Growing up, her famous tunes such as Thank you Mr. DJ,Umqombothi, and I am Burning Up would often be heard blaring from the radio filling people with the urge to move and dance. Which brings us to the question: can you think of anyone more perfect to headline the 6th Edition of Koroga Festival on March 15th? No? We couldn’t either!
Besides music, Yvonne’s philanthropic efforts have been a colossal part of her life, leading her to start the Princess of Africa Foundation in 2007 which has championed various causes including fighting the adverse effects of malaria and, more recently, reducing the high number of avoidable maternal and child deaths in South Africa.
In 2014, Yvonne released a special track with DJ Reason in support of South Africa’s National Department of Health (NDoH). The song titled Let’s Talk is a beautiful mix of strong lyrics and sassy beats.
