Ashya King makes ‘miracle’ recovery from cancer

The parents of Ashya King have said that their son has made a ‘miracle’ recovery from brain cancer six months after the pair were jailed for taking him out of a British hospital without medical consent.

Brett and Naghmeh King sparked an international manhunt when they removed the five-year-old from hospital in Southampton because innovative proton therapy treatment was not available on the NHS.

And the Proton Therapy Centre in Prague, where Ashya finally underwent surgery after a High Court judge approved the move, has said it is ‘thrilled’ to hear news that a recent scan of the boy’s brain showed no sign of a tumour.

‘Ashya’s doctor told me last week that Ashya is doing so well that he is able to release him for rehabilitation,’ said Jana Kulhankova, marketing director at the centre.

‘If the scans are showing that Ashya is cancer-free, as Mr King says, than we are thrilled, that is what we have worked for.

‘We have no reason to doubt Mr King – he does all that is best for his child.’

Ashya is now continuing his recovery in Marbella, Spain, where the Kings have a holiday home.

‘If we had left Ashya with the NHS in Britain, he would not be with us today,’ Naghmeh King told the Sun.

‘He was too weak and would not have survived.’
