Kabete campaigns intensified ahead of Monday by election

Candidates cleared to contest the Kabete Parliamentary by election have intensified campaigns on the last day ahead of the mini poll set for Monday.

The candidates were crisscrossing the constituency in a last minute campaign on Saturday to persuade voters to elect them.

The seat was left vacant following the killing of George Muchai who was shot on Kenyatta Avenue alongside two of his bodyguards and a driver.

Those battling to replace him include Jubilee Alliance Party’s (JAPs) Ferdinand Waititu, ODM’s Wilson Kamau, George Waiguru who is an Independent Candidate as well as PDU’s Isaiah Gichu Ndirangu.

Others are John Wamagata of Safina, Narc-Kenya’s Kavore Kariuki, Kiriro wa Ngugi of the Democratic Party, NVP’s Newton Njenga and Paul Kariuki Wandere of PPK.

According to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the campaigns officially end at 6 pm Saturday.

Kabete constituency has a total of 62,470 registered voters in 92 polling stations spread across the five County Assembly Wards.

The commission has urged all the candidates and the electorate to maintain peace throughout the by election.

On the same day, polls for the Oloolua Member of the County Assembly will also be conducted and six contestants have been cleared for the exercise.

Candidates cleared for the contest include ODM’s Abdirahman Awadh Ali, Joshua Orinah Obegi (Independent Candidate), Jubilee Alliance Party’s Martin Antony Njogu Kimemia, Paul Opiayo Khayanje (an Independent Candidate), Peter Wambua Nyamai of MDP and Stephen Oloishorua Lemaiyam (also an Independent Candidate),” IEBC stated.

The electoral commission has announced that it has already engaged more than 600 poll officials to conduct the mini polls.
