Deputy president William Ruto has weighed in on the raging debate over exorbitant fees levied by some secondary schools, and directed the ministry of education to issue a fees guideline next week.
Ruto has also ordered investigations into institutions that have been violating the fees guidelines issued in 2013 and called on the public to furnish the government with evidence to enable the prosecution of head teachers found to be culpable.
Ruto’s directive comes in the wake of a public outcry over the high fees charged by some secondary school heads prompting fears that bright but needy children might be locked out of school as a result.
