A motorist was on Sunday shot dead while another sustained serious injuries in separate bandit attacks along the volatile Turkwel border.
About 20 thugs attacked a motorcyclist at Lami Nyeusi along the Kapenguria – Lodwar highway and shot him in the head.
Police officers who responded to the incident repulsed the bandits before they could get away with the motorcycle.
There was a fire exchange that lasted about 45 minutes sending civilians scampering for safety as the enemies retaliated.
The incident took place about 20 meters ahead of Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto’s vehicle who was plying the route.
Two security officers aboard a land cruiser vehicle sought for reinforcement and more police responded opening fire to the bandits who hid within the dense thickets on the sides of the road.
In the second incident, another motorist who was riding from Karon village was shot at three times sustaining serious injuries in the thigh.
Tension remains high even as GSU and administration police trucks escort residents and motorists.
