WELL DONE: Limuru Central mCa Njenga Murugami congratulates Kabete MP-elect Ferdinand Waititu on monday night at Wangige primary School

WITH slightly more than two years to the 2017 general elections, a number of current sitting members of both the National Assembly and senate now have their eyes fixed on gubernatorial seats.

It is understood that some of them have the blessing of their party leaders including President Uhuru Kenyatta (TNA) deputy president Willam Ruto (URP)and Raila Odinga (ODM) who are keen to replace the governors who in one way or the other have fallen off with them.

In Nairobi two members of parliament, Mike Sonko (senator) and Dennis Waweru MP Dagoreti South are both plotting to wrestle the seat from the current hold governor Evans Kidero.

Though Sonko is yet to officially declare that he will be vying for the seat, he has initiated activities geared towards his gubernatorial campaigns.

Sonko is currently running the Sonko Rescue Team, an initiative he is using to provide fire fighting and ambulance services, wedding limousines, free hearse services to destinations outside the city, clean water and clean-ups of sewers.

On the other hand, with the exit of former Embakasi MP Ferdinand Waititu from city politics, Waweru is now being groomed by Jubilee stalwarts to offer himself for the Jubilee Alliance Partly ticket to battle it out with Kidero.

Adjacent to Nairobi County, Kabete MP-elect Ferdinand Waititu has hinted that he will be seeking to replace the current Kiambu governor William Kabogo.

Waititu, popularly known as Baba Yao, contested Nairobi governor’s elections on March 4, 2013, but lost narrowly to ODM’s Evans Kidero.

On Saturday, he said his eyes are trained on Kiambu governor’s seat, currently held by William Kabogo.”Let me make this clear, I do not want people to think that it is rumours…I want to notify the Governor of Kiambu that I will be on the ballot paper so that we can make this county a better place,” he said.

Waititu’s entry into Kiambu politics has complicated matters for Kabogo with MPs that have been fighting him publicly declaring support for Waititu.

In deputy president William Ruto’s political bed rock, Rift Valley,National Assembly deputy speaker Joyce Laboso is keen to replace the combative governor Isaac Rutto (Bomet).

Laboso currently seem to enjoy the backing and blessing of the deputy president and URP.

The Sotik MP who is giving governor Rutto sleepless nights will however have to fight it out with former Konoin MP Julius Kones who lost narrowly to Rutto during URP nominations.

In Kericho county current Ainamoi MP Benjamin Langat is flexing his political muscle to dislodge Governor Paul Chepkwony who has fallen out with the leadership of URP.

Chepkwony is not only accused of learning and taking instructions from governor Rutto, but also pushing for a national referendum contrary to the Jubilee position.

He recently teamed up Baringo senator Gideon Moi among other Rift Valley leaders to wage political war against the deputy president.

It might however not be a smooth ride for the two-term MP of Ainamoi as former Buret MP Franklin Bett is also reported to be eying the seat.

Recently Bett defected from ODM to JAP.

A tight race is also shaping up in Mombasa County as Nyali MP Hezron Awati is mobilizing resources to unseat Governor Hassan Joho.

The first time MP is reported to interested in the seat and of late has been meeting members of county assembly and business men in a clear indication that the MP has something up in the sleeves .

In Kisumu, senator Anya’ng Nyo’ng and Kisumu East MP Shakir Shabir are reported to be on the queue to challenge the current governor, Jakton Ranguma.

MPs Manson Nyamweya(South Mugirango)Boniface Otsiula (Bumula) and Onesmus Muthomi (Chuka Igambangombe) are eying to dethrone governors James Ongwae (Kisii) Ken Lusaka (Bungoma) and Samuel Ragwa (Tharaka Nithi)respectively.

Others are Tiya Galgalo current Isiolo Woman MP who is eying to become the first elected female governor for Isiolo County.

Two times Member of Parliament for Kirinyaga Central Joseph Gitari is positioning himself to battle it out with the current governor, Joseph K Ndathi who will be seeking for a second term in office.

Lugari MP Ayub Savula also seems to be having his eyes fixed on the Kakamega gubernatorial seat.

The former journalist cum businessman will be giving a try to unseat current governor, Wycliffe Oparanya.
