Eight Sunshine Secondary School Students Arrested for Trying to Burn Dorm

Police have arrested eight students at the Sunshine Secondary School in Nairobi following an attempt to torch a building at the institution on Friday night.

Lang’ata OCPD Elijah Mwangi said the eight boys, currently being detained at the Lang’ata Police Station, will be probed to ascertain who will be charged in connection with the incident.

“We are interrogating them to see who carries the responsibility. We’ll communicate at a later stage confirming who is to be taken to court,” said Mr Mwangi.

He said that police were called into the institution to arrest the learners, though he was reluctant to reveal more details.

“We are having a substance which is an exhibit of starting a fire,” he said.

On Saturday, a number of parents were called to the institution for discussions with the administration.

The principal declined to address the media. Security personnel at the private institution were instructed not to let in any journalist.
